Moderate to strenuous 6-mile hike through POST-protected land providing context to the human & natural history of this beautiful preserve!Join Peninsula Open Space Trust for a beautiful hike at Lower La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve where you'll experience the area’s sweeping views and gorgeous rolling grasslands! The preserve is over 6,100 acres, of which POST has contributed 5,200 acres. You will be guided by POST ambassadors on the meandering trails of Lower La Honda Creek, featuring a still-active cattle operation and views of the surrounding ridgelines!The hike is moderate to strenuous at about 6 miles round trip with about 1100 feet of gradual elevation gain. There are some steep portions of this hike so hiking poles, closed-toed shoes with tread, and plenty of water/snacks for yourself are recommended.To sign up, please complete the Eventbrite form. Join Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) at Calero County Park, one of the region’s most beautiful oak woodlands!Join Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) at Calero County Park, one of the region’s most beautiful oak woodlands just south of San Jose on the westside of Santa Clara Valley. You will be led by POST ambassadors who will share about the natural history of the area and about POST’s contributions to Calero County Park, and the several other open spaces that make up an important area of protected habitat.The hike is moderate to strenuous at about 4 miles round trip with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Guests will experience outstanding views of rolling California hills and the Calero reservoir with beautiful vistas of California’s iconic Springtime emerald rolling hills and open skyline. Hear marsh and meadow birds singing and raptors calling all in one hike! We will hike along the Los Cerritos, Vallecitos and Figueroa trails, through beautiful oak woodlands with views of Calero Reservoir, the Sierra Azul, Santa Cruz mountains, and Coyote Valley.To sign up, please complete the Eventbrite form. It's a perfect chance to stay active, meet new friends, and enjoy the great outdoors together. Hike designed for active participants. 4-5 miles with approximately 1,000 elevation gain on beautiful trails. Meet at the picnic area by 9:00 AM sharp! Lace up your shoes, bring water, layers, and sun protection and come explore nature with fellow seniors leading the way! Hike hosted by the Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Parks and guided by volunteer naturalist Dennis Ruby.

A POST Representative will share a few words about POST's decades of conservation success before hiking groups leave to explore a strenuous but rewarding 7 mile hike with 1,500 feet of elevation gain.Windy Hill was the first land protection project POST ever completed. Today, it’s an ideal spot for flying kites, walking dogs, mountain biking and horseback riding. The grassy ridge top of this popular 1,312-acre open space preserve is clearly visible from many spots along the Peninsula and is an ideal property to highlight POST’s work to expand the extensive recreational trail networks in our region.All attendees must RSVP via Eventbrite. While it may be foggy, we hope to catch gorgeous views of the ocean, nearby farmland, and glimpses of harbor seals, pelicans, hawks, rabbits, and whales during the winter season.Please note that dogs are not allowed at this Community Walk and that all minors must be accompanied by a parent and guardian for the entirety of the walk.**Please note this walk is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. It is mostly flat throughout, however, it is quite a long walk.

Midpen guided activities are led by trained volunteer docent naturalists. All are welcome.Join Docent Naturalists Greg Azevedo and Emma Finter for a leisurely-paced hike at a limited-access area. You’ll travel in a single loop, traversing grassland meadows, mixed evergreen forest, and chaparral. It includes one uphill section with a 500-foot elevation gain. You’ll discuss local history, learn about the pond environment and flora of the area, and enjoy views of Santa Clara Valley while exploring habitats that few humans have recently visited. Bring a snack for a short break. Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after January 18 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close January 30 at 2:00 p.m.Where to Meet:Meet at the VTA Park & Ride lot at Camden Avenue @ Highway 85. Docents will lead a carpool to the access area and have a group permit and parking passes for participants. Please arrive on time; the group will depart promptly. All participants must stay for the duration of the activity (no early departures in a closed area). Please note: there are no restrooms in VTA lot, nor the Preserve, so please plan accordingly.
