Together, we’ll explore towering redwoods, observe plants, insects, and other forest life, and learn how to use the iNaturalist app to photograph and identify your discoveries. This 4-mile adventure is perfect for nature lovers, families, and anyone curious about forest ecosystems. This hike includes scenic river views and some of the park's most famous old-growth trees. To join this group hike, all participants are asked to complete a short, mandatory liability waiver. Join Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) at Calero County Park, one of the region’s most beautiful oak woodlands! Join Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) at Calero County Park, one of the region’s most beautiful oak woodlands just south of San Jose on the westside of Santa Clara Valley. You will be led by POST ambassadors who will share about the natural history of the area and about POST’s contributions to Calero County Park, and the several other open spaces that make up an important area of protected habitat.     The hike is moderate to strenuous at about 4 miles round trip with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Guests will experience outstanding views of rolling California hills and the Calero reservoir with beautiful vistas of California’s iconic Springtime emerald rolling hills and open skyline. Hear marsh and meadow birds singing and raptors calling all in one hike! We will hike along the Los Cerritos, Vallecitos and Figueroa trails, through beautiful oak woodlands with views of Calero Reservoir, the Sierra Azul, Santa Cruz mountains, and Coyote Valley.     To sign up, please complete the Eventbrite form. Together, we’ll wander through groves of towering redwoods while learning about their unique, adaptable, and awe-inspiring features. Along the way, we'll observe both indigenous and invasive plant species, uncover the area's rich history, identify signs of climate change, and discuss how Sempervirens Fund is working to protect endangered species in this area.This 3-mile adventure is perfect for nature lovers, families, and anyone curious about the magnificent trees that make the coast of California so special. You’re invited to a special guided hike by Sempervirens Fund, a local nonprofit that protects redwood forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains, preserves the plants and animals that make them home, and restores the balance of nature. Join us on Friday, November 21, for a 5-mile hike through Sam McDonald Park. Together, we’ll journey beneath redwoods and Douglas-firs, explore the landscape, and take in scenic views. Along the way, we’ll discuss the park’s ecology, the importance of redwoods, and how Sempervirens Fund is working to ensure redwoods thrive for generations to come. We will also take some time to stop and identify nearby plants. This hike is perfect for nature lovers and anyone eager to connect with the beauty of redwood forest. Expect moderate terrain, peaceful forest trails, and inspiring moments surrounded by nature. Please note that there will be a 900’ climb during one portion of this hike, however as a group we will take frequent breaks.
